De ochtend van de waarheden, lijkt het wel. De zogenaamde oranjerevolutie in Oekraïne - weggegooid geld. Een anonieme blogger op Antiwar stelt de voor de hand liggende vraag: als Irak in 2003 echt massavernietigingswapens had gehad, zouden de Amerikaanse en Britse militairen Irak dan zo gemakkelijk zijn binnengetrokken? En: waarom heeft Saddam Hoessein ze dan niet gebruikt? De eenvoudigste weerlegging van de leugens was waarschijnlijk te eenvoudig voor de inktkoelies.
En in het kader van de "ik-had-het-je-al-gezegd"-ronde twee citaten van Charley Reese:
"After all the thousands of America's finest have been buried, after all those artificial limbs have been attached, all those mutilated faces reconstructed, all those blind given Seeing Eye dogs, all those mental cases put on a drug regimen, all those billions of dollars added to the $8 trillion American debt, then comes the question, the important question everybody is ignoring right now: What will we have bought for this terrible price? Another corrupt dictatorship in a still-unstable Middle East."
Zoals het was, ja. En als apotheose:
"What we are witnessing is the beginning of the end of Euro-American domination of the planet. When the emperors start being idiots, the empire is on the way to the ash heap of history. If you have any grandchildren, you might suggest that they study Chinese."
Het kan nooit kwaad een vreemde taal te leren. Spaans ligt meer voor de hand in de VS. Het Chinees is niet de enige taal van de toekomst. Dat de VS druk bezig zijn zichzelf en het Engels op te blazen - Shakespeare zal het wel overleven... Goethe heeft de nazi's ook overleefd. En Dostojewski de bolsjewieken.
